Log Cabins

Fields and Furrows

uglyQ.jpg (30816 bytes)

Fields and Furrows is a type of Log Cabin Quilt.

It is always in a diagonal. I have made several differnt ones.

This one is a full size coverlet.

A.K.A. The Ugly Quilt

It's made up of 20 blocks. It was intended to be a scrap

quilt. The fabrics from this one can be found in the others

that I've made in the past.

Arrow

arrowQ.jpg (98902 bytes)

Arrow is another type of Log Cabin Quilt.

It is in a "V" type pattern that in essence forms an arrow shape.

This is the only one that I have made for my sister as a wedding gift.

It is a full size bedspread.

It is made of twenty four blocks.

Windmill

windmill.jpg (42881 bytes)

Windmill is another type of Log Cabin Quilt.

It is set in a spiral or windmill type pattern that gives a sense

of going in a circular motion even though each block is square.

This quilt was made for my other sister. She likes cows

and it's black and white with a cow pattern fabric

for accent.

It is made of twenty four blocks.

It is a queen size extra long coverlet.

Barn Raising

momQ2.jpg (20298 bytes)

A Barn Raising is also a type of Log Cabin Quilt.

It's as it's name implys, starting in the middle and moves out.

Just like the "old tyme" Amish barn raisings.

This particular one is my mom's. It's a rose, country blue, and

ivory color.

This quilt is a Queen Size Coverlet and

consists of thirty six blocks and a single border.

Irish Chains

IrishQ.jpg (80617 bytes)

An Irish Chain is two different types of blocks to complete

the chain linking effect.

The blocks are smaller than that of the Log Cabin.

Also you are limited to using only two different fabrics

to complete your pattern.

This one is my Mother-in-Law's.

It's a twin size coverlet and consists of forty blocks.

Lover's Knot

beka's.jpg (34155 bytes)

This is a Lover's Knot.

It has clearly defined blocks seperated by a wide border.

Each block is broke down into segments to make the "knot" effect.

This is the second one I have made.

I found that the larger pieces much easier to use. I gave this one

to our niece for her Bat Mitzvah.

It is a full size and consists of  twelve blocks.

This is an Irish Star.

It's made up of the Irish Chain 9 patch and the 9 patch Star.

This Quilt was a wedding gift for Laura's Girl Scout Troop leader.

It's colors are rust, black, cocoa & sandstone. I had a lot of fun making it and it's one ofmy favorite quilts.

It's a King Size coverlet and consists of 25 blocks.
